Self-management of cardiovascular disease

The research group have developed two self-help manuals that are used in the UK and abroad. These are:

The Angina Plan

The Angina Plan is a cognitive behavioural self-management programme for people with chronic stable angina. It aims to:

  • dispel common misconceptions about angina
  • increase physical activity levels which are known to be a major challenge in this group
  • reduce the likelihood of further heart problems.

The Angioplasty Plan

The Angioplasty Plan is a cognitive behavioural self-management programme for people following acute presentation of cardiovascular disease (CVD) that resulted in either primary angioplasty (early) or planned angioplasty. It aims to:

  • dispel common misconceptions about heart disease
  • enable people with mild CVD to take control of their condition
  • answer many of the questions patients ask about heart disease
  • reduce the likelihood of further heart problems.
