Profile

Biography

Joanne (Jo) joined York Trials Unit in January 2019 as a Trial Coordinator.  She has a background in basic science and has experience working with clinical samples in both the cardiovascular and oncology fields. Jo completed her PhD in 2016 and went on to work as a Clinical Trial Sample Manager at the UCL Cancer Institute. Jo worked on large scale observational studies with a focus on intra-tumour heterogeneity in patients with primary lung cancer as well as those with extensive metastatic disease. 

She is currently working on SCOOTT and has experience on many surgical intervention trials including  L1FESWIFFT and the CTIMP study TIDE. Jo has also worked on the antifungal management study, BioDriveAFS.

Projects

  • SCOOTT - A multi-centre, superiority and non-inferiority three-arm RCT to assess the clinical and cost effectiveness of treating arthritis of the base of the thumb, with or without surgery and to determine the clinical and cost effectiveness of trapeziectomy versus base of thumb joint replacement.

  • BioDrive AFS - an RCT investigating the impact of a biomarker driven Antifungal Stewardship strategy on antifungal drug use and health related quality of life for patients with acute leukaemia
  • L1FE – A RCT investigating the effectiveness of surgical fixation with INFIX compared to non-surgical management of LC-1 fragility fractures in older adults
  • SWIFFT – An RCT to determine whether adults with a fracture of the scaphoid waist should receive plaster cast treatment or surgical fixation
  • TIDE – An RCT investigating alternatives to nasal mupirocin for early nasal decolonisation of MRSA amongst adult hospital in-patients
