Posted on 8 March 2023

Third year adult nursing student Claudia Collins has been shortlisted for two awards recognising student contribution.

Claudia Collins

Firstly Claudia is among 10 finalists in the category of Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2023.

This award seeks to recognise a student who has made an exceptional contribution to student affairs during their time at University.

Claudia’s second nomination is for the National Student Congress Award where she is among nine finalists. The National Student Nurse Congress Award was introduced in 2019 to recognise the achievements of exceptional student nurses. The award looks for students training in nursing who show genuine passion for nursing, who go the extra mile, strive to make things better and show to be a future leader.

Claudia said: " I am absolutely thrilled to be nominated for not only one but two awards! I am grateful for the recognition of my work and initiative by the Department, but at the same time I am quite humbled. It has always been important to me to represent and to be an advocate for my fellow nursing students. And I am happy that my passion is contributing towards improving the nursing programme at York. If I can make a small difference for someone, that’s why I do it.".

David Barrett, Deputy Head of Department (Teaching) said: “To be nominated for one award is excellent; to be nominated for two is exceptional. It demonstrates Claudia's commitment to her role as Departmental Student Representative and her focus on improving the student experience for all her peers. Good luck Claudia!”.

The winner will be announced in April at their respective events.
