The Department of Health Sciences has been named one of the UK’s most highly regarded departments for the subject of Nursing. We are ranked 4th in the UK in the Times and Sunday Times university league tables for 2021.
Published annually, the Times University Guide ranks 131 UK universities by undergraduate degree subjects according to teaching quality; student experience; research quality; entry standards; graduate prospects; Firsts and 2:1 degrees; completion rates; student-staff ratio; and spend on academic services and student facilities.
The rankings are based on official data collected by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), the National Student Survey and the Research Excellence Framework 2014.
The Head of Department, Professor Karl Atkin, said: “This is excellent news and we are thrilled to be recognised among the very best departments in the country for nursing in The Times University Guide.”
Professor Paul Galdas, Head of Nursing and Midwifery, added: “This is welcome news to our staff and students who work hard to continually improve nursing education at York. The ranking reflects the hard work of our team of passionate academics and our regional NHS and healthcare provider partners, who work in close partnership to support our students to become highly valued practitioners who make a real difference to people's lives."
The following departments at York also received top 10 rankings: Chemistry (6th), English (4th), Language and Linguistic Science (6th), Nursing (4th), Psychology (10th), Social Policy and Social Work (4th).
