Third year mental health student to take part in national Nursing Times event

Third year mental health student Joe Atkinson is taking part in the Nursing Times Careers Live event taking place in Manchester on 15th September.

The event offers students the chance to connect with nurses and trusts from across the country and mentors who can help them with career decisions. It will feature a number of talks from nursing experts and will offer useful advice such as how best to prepare for interviews.

Joe, who won Student Mental Health Nurse of the Year at this year’s Student Nursing Times awards, will be taking part in a student reception with the Editor of the Nursing Times, during which he will discuss any concerns or challenges students may face when transitioning from student to newly qualified nurse.

Joe said: “I was really pleased to be asked to take part and I’m excited about being involved in the event. I complete my nurse training later this month and I’m really looking forward to starting my journey as a registered nurse”.

Professor Paul Galdas, Head of Nursing and Midwifery in the Department said: “I am delighted that Joe has agreed to take part in this event. He has had an incredible final year as a nursing student and I am proud that a University of York student nurse will be involved.”
