New Postgraduate Diploma students welcomed

Posted on 17 March 2015

Students on the new Postgraduate Diploma with Registration in Nursing programme have been welcomed to the Department of Health Sciences.

This new two year, full-time programme for graduate entrants enables students to ‘fast track’ to professional nursing registration. The programme is aimed at supporting and enabling student nurses to lead research innovation and evidence-based practice in line with Theme 7 of the Shape of Caring review (2015). On completion, successful learners will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma at the point of nurse registration with the opportunity to top up to MSc.

On their first day, the students met the Head of Department, Professor Karl Atkin, and the Deputy Head of Department for Professional Education and Head of Nursing, Midwifery and Professional Education, Dr Angela Simpson, as well as the rest of the programme team.

In addition students had a networking lunch with the students to promote buddying across the postgraduate nursing programmes. The Postgraduate Diploma Nursing students will also meet fellow postgraduate students at an event organised by the Graduate Students' Association.

Ros Brownlow, Programme Lead for the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing, said: "It was great to welcome so many new students to our new PG Diploma. We are looking forward to working with them and hope they enjoy studying with us."
