Professor Kate Pickett comments on One Nation Speech

Posted on 25 June 2015

Professor Kate Pickett, of the Department of Health Sciences, discusses Prime Minister David Cameron’s One Nation speech, given recently at a school in Runcorn, in a recent piece for The Conversation website.

In the article, Kate writes: “If you live in a country with low levels of social mobility, where a child’s life chances are constrained by their parent’s incomes, education and social class, then you can have all the aspirations you like and work as hard as you can – your chances of escaping a background of poverty and deprivation are still pathetically small.”
