PhD student wins Young Investigators' award

Posted on 21 July 2015

Health Sciences' PhD student Jess Morgan has won a prestigious Young Investigators' award from the Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP).

Jess performed a systematic review of the safety and rates of treatment failures of early discharge for children with cancer when they get a temperature.

She submitted the work for presentation at the International Society for Paediatric Oncology conference which will be held in Cape Town in October - a large conference widely attended by professionals in the field.

Jess said: “I was quite shocked to hear I had won the award as only a handful of people received it last year. I will be attending the conference and presenting a 15 minute talk on the systematic review, as well as a poster presentation for qualitative synthesis.”

Jess will also be attending a special session for Young Investigators which will enable her to exchange ideas with peers about careers in oncology and develop a professional network.

Jess currently works one day a week as a Clinical Research Fellow in Leeds and her fellowship at the University of York is funded by Candlelighters, a Leeds-based charity formed and run by parents of children who have or have had cancer.
