The Department of Health Sciences is delighted that its undergraduate BA (Hons) Midwifery Practice has been successfully re-accredited as ‘Baby Friendly’ by UNICEF.

The midwifery team in Health Sciences are delighted that the undergraduate BA (Hons) Midwifery Practice programme has been successfully re-accredited as ‘Baby Friendly’ by UNICEF.

The award is given to Universities who can demonstrate a high standard of infant feeding education in its midwifery (or health visiting) curriculum.

It involved an assessor interviewing third year students to ask them about different aspects of supporting mothers who are breastfeeding. Health Sciences third year midwifery students did us proud by easily and comfortably demonstrating their skills and knowledge to the assessor, who later commented that they were excellent.

The University holds the award for a further 3 years before it has to be re-accredited in 2017.
