Best improvement for children and young people

A collaboration between the Department of Health Sciences and Leeds Children's Diabetes team has been awarded a 2013 QIC award.

Anne Phillips and Carole Gelder from the Department of Health Sciences are part of a collaboration with the Children and Young Peoples Diabetes Service in Leeds that has been awarded a 2013 QIC Best Improvement Programme for Children and Young People award.

In this category the judges were looking for initiatives with a high level of engagement from key stakeholders, in particular children and their families, as well as evidence of sustainability and transferability to other organisations. A submission lead by Dr Fiona Campbell, Consultant Paediatric Diabetologist, Leeds Children's Hospital in collaboration with the Department of Health Sciences, University of York was the winner in this category.

Judges commented that the Children and Young Peoples Diabetes Service in Leeds was a wonderful concept with results that they would want to see in every centre in the country. They were also particularly impressed with the 3 way partnership between the University of York, the clinical team, and the website designed by families, for families.

Dr Fiona Campbell, the Paediatric Consultant and representative at the Department of Health for Diabetes accepted the awards at the event in London on behalf of the team.
