Two full-time CLAHRC MSc Studentships in Health Services Research - funded support

Posted on 31 July 2012

Fully funded MSc award linked to the Translating Research into Practice in Leeds and Bradford (TRiP-LaB) study.

Applications are invited for a MSc studentship to start in October 2012. The award is available for students undertaking a full time 1 year programme leading to the degree of MSc in Health Services Research (HSR).

The Award will cover academic fees at the UK/EU rate and a maintenance grant at the Research Council UK stipend rate (£13,590 for 2012/13). A project support grant of £1000 is available to support any research expenses.

TRiP-LaB (Translating Research into Practice in Leeds and Bradford) is a research partnership between the University of York, NHS Bradford & Airedale and Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundations Trust. TRiP-LaB is part of the Leeds, York and Bradford NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRCs).

The programme aims:

  • To increase the impact of research by translating it into evidence-based service improvements and commissioning in a local health economy of 1.2 million people.
  • To develop, implement and evaluate methods of inducing and sustaining research uptake by service providers.
  • To contribute to international research on knowledge implementation, innovation and diffusion by unpacking the impact of innovation characteristics, the organisational contexts to which they are applied, and the effect of time.

We are looking for two students who are interested in studying for an MSc whilst examining research questions in their Masters dissertations that help us understand the translation of research evidence into service improvements. In return for your enthusiasm and hard work we will provide high quality training opportunities in Health Services Research (we were ranked joint 1st in the last Research Assessment Exercise for HSR) and dedicated academic supervision.

Students must hold a first degree equivalent to a UK 2:1 honours degree. If English is not your first language then we require a score of at least 7.0 on the academic IELTS test.

To Apply: please apply to Professor Carl Thompson (carl.thompson@york.ac.uk) with your CV and an outline of your potential dissertation idea (350 words on background, research question/aims and how you might go about answering them).

Applications must be received by 5pm on September the 1st and interviews will be held on September 12th at the University of York (details will be sent to candidates selected for interview). If you are successful you will be required to apply formally to the University of York and be available for induction and the start of the MSc on the 9th October 2012.
