Biography

Professor Nikki Horwood is the Head of the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York. She joined York following senior leadership roles at the University of East Anglia, where she was the academic lead for HealthUEA and served as Associate Dean for Research and Postgraduate Research in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Prior to her time at UEA, Professor Horwood established her research portfolio across leading biomedical research institutions, including the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology (at both Imperial College London and the University of Oxford) and St Vincent's Institute of Medical Research (University of Melbourne).

Research

Overview

Professor Horwood's research focuses on osteoimmunology, the dynamic crosstalk between the immune system and bone metabolism, and how these cellular interactions drive bone destruction and tissue remodelling across disease states including inflammatory arthritis, bone and bone marrow cancers, and osteoporosis.
