 Student conferences at CECS

As well as taking an active part, both as helpers and speakers, in the organisation of our CECS conferences, CECS students have convened highly successful conferences while at the Centre.

"The conference was a fantastic chance to meet many scholars whose research interests closely interacted with my own. I have since had the opportunity to talk further with them about our mutual research interests and meet with them in other academic settings. Such opportunities have benefited and challenged my own work immeasurably."
Sarah Goldsmith

"In June 2012 I organised a highly successful day conference, entitled 'Desiring Fashion: The Consumption and Dissemination of Dress, 1750-1850'. This experience allowed me to network and make contacts with a wide array of academics and museum professionals in my specialist area, which has led to offers of work, and collaboration on publications." Serena Dyer

"With speakers flying in from all over the world to our international conference, delegates travelling from across Europe...CECS staff offered valuable guidance and unstinting support throughout the organizing process, assisting me with funding applications, as well as promoting the project in the academic world and the wider community." Adam Perchard

Students have also had opportunites to give papers and partake in panels at conferences here and abroad. The CECS Postgraduate Forum has proved to be a highly successful and encouraging environment for students to prepare and practice giving their papers with peer support and encouragement.

More networking opportunities...

CECS students help staff members to arrange and meet speakers  for the CECS research Seminar held 4 or 5 times a term.  Speakers and students regroup afterwards at a local pub, to continue discussions and debate more informally.
