Biography
Dr Nicola O'Donnell is a part-time Clinical Research Fellow at the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination at the University of York, working within the Candlelighters Supportive Care Research Centre.
Nicola specialises in working qualitatively to understand and support children, young people and families living with and beyond cancer, as well as those living with life-threatening or limited conditions and/or medical complexity. She completed her PhD in 2024; this focused on generating evidence to design a novel intervention for the rare childhood eye cancer, Retinoblastoma. She has also developed and published research focused on paediatrics, palliative care, type 1 diabetes, women's health, Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and intervention design.
Alongside her work as a researcher, Nicola is a chartered health psychologist employed in paediatrics in the NHS. As a clinician and academic, Nicola has over 10 years’ experience working collaboratively with individuals, families, and professionals to improve healthcare outcomes.
