2013

  • 20 March 2013, Departmental seminar, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Parma, Italy
  • "Palaeoproteomics and beyond; when archaeology meets mass spectrometry", Jane Thomas-Oates (invited lecture)
  • 11 - 14 April 2013, UKAS2013, Environmental and Archaeological Science Conference, Cardiff, UK

Our group formed part of a large York BioArCh contingent at UKAS2013.

  • "Watching bone degrade - one glutamine residue at a time", Joanna Simpson (poster presentation) Joanna won one of the poster prizes
  • "Application of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation-mass spectrometry for rapid screening of lipid extracts from archaeological pottery", Rachel Smith (poster presentation)

Jane sat and learned (lots) at this one

  • 18 - 19 June 2013, 10th Proteomics Methods Forum, York, UK

The group attended the 10th PMF which, like the very first PMF, was held in York

  • 8 - 10 July 2013, Analytical Research Forum 2013, GlaxoSmithKline & the University of Hertfordshire, UK
  • "Capturing peptides on gold using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) for analysis by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS)", Helen Robinson (poster presentation) Helen won the RSC Analytical Methods poster prize
  • "Lipid analysis of chlorite cooking vessels from ancient Merv, Turkmenistan", Rachel Smith (poster presentation). Rachel won a poster prize sponsored by the RSC's Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund
  • "Novel mass spectrometric approach to study protein O-glycosylation", Kirsty Skeene (poster presentation)
  • 9 - 11 September 2013, BMSS Annual Meeting 2013, Eastbourne Winter Gardens, UK

The extended group attended the annual British Society for Mass Spectrometry meeting in Eastbourne.

  • "Metabolomics beyond 2013" session was chaired by Jane
  • "Application of matrix assisted laser desorption/ionisation – mass spectrometry for rapid screening of food residues in archaeological pottery", Rachel Smith (oral presentation)
