Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicity (BAME)

Staff and students in Chemistry come from a range of different countries and backgrounds and we thrive as a result of our international community. As a Department, Chemistry is committed to ensuring that BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) staff and students from all backgrounds feel welcome and supported during their time at York. As part of our Athena SWAN Gold Award, we are extending our equality and diversity focus to include all protected characteristics; this includes ethnicity and race.

The Department’s Chemical InterActions social group aims to bring together students and staff from all backgrounds, particularly our international staff and students.

The University of York’s Staff Race Equality Forum was relaunched in early 2017. If you wish to get involved, please contact Chair, Dr Avtar Matharu ( or complete this form.
