Today I am busy preparing for an exciting trip to the very north of Scotland, where I will spend the remainder of the week as a “Scientist in Residence” at the invitation of the local branch of the British Science Association. I will be delivering workshops at schools in Thurso, Wick and Bettyhill. I was last there in October 2008, when I took two days to drive there and two days to drive back with an estate-car packed to the roof with equipment. This year I am letting the train take the strain, but this means that the host schools are having to provide most of the equipment for my workshops. Mind you, I have just assembled the chemicals and apparatus that I do need to take and I can hardly lift the box! I just hope that when I change trains tomorrow there are not too many flights of stairs between the platforms. Caithness here I come!
A packed car for the 2008 trip to Caithness, I am trying to travel light this time!
