CAHR co-convenes an Expert Group Discussion on Innovative Thinking for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders in Geneva

Posted on 10 March 2014

CAHR co-convenes an expert roundtable in Geneva on 12 March.

On 12 March 2014 CAHR is co-convening a roundtable that brings together human rights defenders, practitioners, academic scholars, intergovernmental officials and government representatives to generate ideas for future, innovative, collaborative initiatives (including for research) that foster enabling environments for human rights defenders and strengthen their protection.
Experts at this roundtable will draw upon recommendations made in the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders to the Human Rights Council on 10 March 2014, ideas shared in the forthcoming Side Session of the Human Rights Council on 'Creating a Safe and Enabling Environment for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders' on 11 March 2014, and issues raised by human rights defenders and practitioners in the Special Issue on the Protection of Human Rights Defenders in the Journal of Human Rights Practice (published in November 2013).

This event is co-organised with the Human Rights and Social Justice Research Institute of London Metropolitan University, Amnesty International, and the International Service for Human Rights.
