Speaker(s): Bondita Acharya, Women in Governance (WinG)-Assam, CAHR visiting fellow
Bondita Acharya discusses the role of women in the protracted armed conflict taking place in Northeast India since 1955. She speaks of the daunting challenge posed by the unrecognized conflict to the civil society in terms of access to justice for human rights violations. She also addresses women's participation in informal political activities such as peace initiatives, protesting human rights abuses, and bridging ethnic divides, while they largely remain excluded from formal political processes and institutions of governance.
