Human rights journalism at the local level - media and conflict in Somalia

Abdiaziz is a freelance journalist based in Mogadishu, Somalia, who has written extensively for local Somali media as well as international news outlets such as the Guardian on the human rights situation in his country. He has particularly focused on the protection of journalists and internally displaced people in Somalia. Abdiaziz is currently a visiting fellow on the Centre's Protective Fellowship Scheme for Human Rights Defenders at Risk. In his talk Abdiaziz will discuss the challenges journalists face when working on the local level in conflict situations.

Abdiaziz was awarded the Oxfam Novib/PEN International free expression award on 16 January 2014.
