Sedentary Work / Too Much Sitting

All-day movement is now seen as being just as important for the maintenance of good health as traditional exercise.  Indeed, there is increasing evidence suggesting that too much sitting down (associated with sedentary work activities such as office work) is bad for our health, regardless of exercise levels (see NHS Choices).  Studies have linked excessive sitting with being overweight and obese, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancer, and premature death.  In addition, seated postures in combination with poor working postures and poor general health can create an increased risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders.
