First Aid Overview

First Aid is the provision of immediate and temporary care to a victim of an accident, with the purpose of preventing or reducing the threat to life or health of the casualty

The Department will ensure appropriate first aid arrangements are in place for staff, students and visitors, including members of the public. This includes the provision of:

  • adequately stocked first aid boxes in all areas of the Department
  • appointment of trained First Aiders to adequately cover activities both within and outside the Department buildings
  • provision of a First Aid room B/K021 (behind Mail Room)

Responding to a First Aid incident 

If the first aid incident is serious, calling the emergency services (telephone: 999) is the first action and then take their advice. If not serious or for assistance in a serious incident, shout for help and ask a responder to locate a departmental first aider - see signs at first aid points and call/find the nearest first aider or dial (01904 32)8500 to ask reception to contact a first aider. If no first aider is reachable, then security can be contacted on 3333 (or using the "emergency" button within the SafeZone App) - all security staff are first aid trained. In an incident requiring emergency services, security should be contacted to assist the emergency services locate the building on campus.
