The Department of Biology is committed to training staff members to be self-aware of equality and diversity issues. It organises both online and in-house training, which aim to develop a community of staff that is sensitive to biases in the daily activities of the Department and in selection and recruitment processes.

Equality & Diversity Training (for all staff)
Unconscious Bias Awareness (for all staff)
Unconscious Bias Awareness in Recruitment and Selection (for members of recruitment panels)
The Department of Biology and the University of York are also committed to the progression of staff members and aim to support everyone to build their career. During the first two years, staff members are assigned a mentor who offers advice on teaching, career development and any other issues arising. Additionally, staff members have the opportunity to discuss career plans during the annual Performance Review.
There is also a large range of courses offered centrally by the University to support staff development.
