Molecules, mating and mayhem in the sexual interactions of fruit-flies

The study of interactions between the sexes over reproductive decisions has proved a fruitful way to understand how and why individuals co-operate and why they sometimes don't. We've used genetic and physical manipulations in fruit-flies to perturb sexual interactions and examine the resulting effects on fitness. More recently, we have used transcriptomics to describe genomic responses to sexual competition, and performed small RNA profiling to understand how sets of reproductive genes might be co-regulated.
