Capitalizing on Transformation? How Finance, Policy, and Narratives Stall System Change
The sustainability transition requires unprecedented capital reallocation, yet despite decades of products and frameworks, trillions continue flowing to fossil fuels, industrial agriculture, and other unsustainable activities. Why do financial markets struggle to catalyze transition? In this talk, Dr. Truzaar Dordi from the University of York, United Kingdom, presents research triangulating where sustainability transitions get stuck. Drawing on research spanning fossil fuel governance, the political economy of ESG, and his emerging work on the global agri-food system - Dordi reveals systematic patterns in how financial institutions, policy environments, and corporate narratives interact to block, rather than enable, the transitions we urgently need.
