Welcome to the Biology Department Centrifuge Booking Service

Training

Appropriate training is essential for both Health & Safety reasons as well as to minimise potential damage to the machines and rotors. Machines must only be used by authorised users. All new members of staff and PhD students wanting to use the machines are required to attend a training session. They will then be added to the authorised users list. Training is provided by the Infrastructure Team biol-infrastructure-group@york.ac.uk. For new staff/PhD students, details are included in the Induction Pack. For existing users, training will be provided on request if you are not on the list of approved users.

Booking Centrifuges

An online booking system is in place; this is used along with Log Sheets for cross charging of the service

 These rotors can only be used on the Sorvall Lynx machines.  Rotors from the Lynx 6000's in L128 may be used on this machine but on no others. These rotors can only be used on Lynx 6000 centrifuges.

Instructions: Online booking via Infinity Idea Elan will guarantee your timeslot.

  • Most sections will be default settings - including your telephone extension is useful information
  • In the 'Special Instructions' box put the name of the rotor used, speed / g and a brief description of the sample
  • Press save

Logging runs

A decision on whether to retain individual machines is based on the actual level of use that is recorded in the booking system - low use machines may be re-located or not replaced. It is therefore vital that the booking system is used.

Charges

  • Levied at a flat rate of £16 per run.
  • Booking information on the online booking system will be used to calculate the number of runs
  • Will be collected monthly [YSBL users are charged in a different way but please use the booking system as normal]
