Aqueous waste = predominantly water based, where water has been used as the solvent to dissolve a substance(s) e.g. toxic compound toxic to the environment
Innocuous aqueous waste solutions (e.g. solutions of sodium chloride, dilute acids and alkalis) may be poured down the sink
Hierarchy of solvent disposal: halogenated > flammable > aqueous
REACTIVE SUBSTANCES (e.g. concentrated acids, alkalis, peroxides, oxidising & reducing agents) MUST NOT be mixed in an aqueous waste container. These are collected separately as ‘individual chemical waste’
Use PLASTIC or PLASTIC COATED GLASS bottles for ‘AQUEOUS’ waste.
