Prescription glasses / prescription safety glasses

Prescription glasses will provide some splash protection, and adequate for low risk activities where a minor splash injury could occur. However, for higher risk activities (see guidelines for when safety glasses are required) safety glasses ('overspecs' or prescription safety glasses) must be worn to provide appropriate protection.
- Some workers find it uncomfortable wearing ‘overspecs’, especially if required for long periods of time. Prescription safety glasses should be considered in these circumstances.
- All staff and research postgraduate students who require prescription safety specs can obtain these free of charge to the individual. Cost of prescription safety glasses is the responsibility of the lab group / grantholder.
