All PhD and Masters by Research students are required to discuss the ethical implications of their proposed research with their supervisor at the start of their study period and submit a BEC PhD & MRes responsibilities form to the Biology Ethics Committee (BEC)

If any ethical issues are identified that require formal review by a university ethics committee, it is the joint responsibility of both the supervisor/PI and the PhD student to obtain relevant ethical approval. More information is available on the Biology Departmental ethics website.

All staff proposing to undertake research with human tissue must register and complete appropriate training prior to commencement of the work. Further infomation is available on the Biology Departmental Human Tissue website
