Who is responsible for right to work checks?

Responsibility is shared between HR and departments:

Role Responsibility
HR University employees (except for some Estates and Campus Services employees)

Casual workers: HR will register casual workers, including making right to work checks1
Departments Direct appointments2

Volunteers

Casual workers: departments must check that each worker is currently registered with HR1
Estates and Campus Services University employees where responsibility for right to work checks has been devolved to the department

1See Registering casual workers for more information

2Departments must establish that an individual has the right to work before requesting a direct appointment. HR will confirm this with a formal right to work check before they start work.
