Minimum standards for right to work checks
Who is responsible for right to work checks?
Responsibility is shared between HR and departments:
Role | Responsibility |
---|---|
HR |
University employees (except for some Estates and Campus Services employees)
Casual workers: HR will register casual workers, including making right to work checks1 |
Departments |
Direct appointments2
Volunteers Casual workers: departments must check that each worker is currently registered with HR1 |
Estates and Campus Services | University employees where responsibility for right to work checks has been devolved to the department |
1See Registering casual workers for more information
2Departments must establish that an individual has the right to work before requesting a direct appointment. HR will confirm this with a formal right to work check before they start work.
