MA in Education (by research)

This is a two-year programme which enables you to undertake a piece of research in an area of professional interest to you under the guidance of a supervisor. In term 1 you will follow a course on research methods on Tuesday evenings. You will also meet with your supervisor twice a term who will guide you towards submitting a dissertation of 25,000 to 30,000 words in length by the end of September in your second year of registration.

MA in Teaching Studies

This 18-month programme is designed for primary and secondary school teachers who have recently gained 60 M-level credits as part of their PGCE programme at the University of York or elsewhere. In terms 1, 2 and 3 you will take a taught module on Tuesday evenings. You will also meet with your supervisor twice a term who will guide you towards submitting a dissertation of 10,000 - 12,000 words in length by the end of March in your second year of registration.

Teaching English to Young Learners Masters (MA) | Distance Programme

This is a two-year distance programme taught by the Centre for English Language Teaching designed for worldwide professionals who are involved in various aspects of teaching English as a foreign language to young learners (6 to 16 year olds).

MPhil/PhD

The part-time MPhil programme (four years registration) and PhD programme (six years registration) are designed to support you in undertaking a substantial piece of research in your chosen area of interest. As well as supervisory support, the programme includes a number of research training and presentation workshops, and the support of Thesis Advisory Group meetings. The MPhil thesis is about 55.000 words in length and the PhD thesis is about 80,000 words in length, submitted at the end of the registration period.
