Undergraduate study

Education students in a lecture (c) John Houlihan

Education affects people’s lives in a very real sense, but it’s also a fascinating field of study in its own right. Why do we have an education system? Why is it so expensive? Why do some children succeed and others fail? Ultimately, whom does it serve?

Answering these questions involves delving into a wide range of disciplines and fields, including history, politics, psychology, sociology and economics. At York, our distinctive programmes tackle these questions from many different angles - and our teaching is internationally recognised for its excellence.
