Welcome to your undergraduate student news summary of key things happening this week.

UoY community update

Feeling unwell? Could it be measles or meningitis?
Infectious diseases can spread easily - do you know the symptoms? Look out for:

  • high temperature
  • rash
  • sore throat
  • aches

***If you feel unwell, let someone know and stay at home*** Seek medical advice if your symptoms get worse. See our information on infectious illnesses or get advice from the NHS website. Find out if you’re up to date with your NHS vaccinations.

Small change, big impact: use energy wisely
Help us to reach a £1 million energy saving target. Over the coming 12 months we aim to make valuable, sustainable and meaningful changes toward energy conservation throughout our community.

1. Win £500 during National Student Money Week

We know that juggling finances and studying can be difficult. That’s why it’s important to have the tools to keep you safe and mentally healthy during your time as a student. For National Student Money Week, we have loads of tips to help you budget as well as understand more risky financial behaviour. Grab free noodles at our money advice drop-ins and enter the Blackbullion prize draw to win £500!

2. It’s Sustainability Week: book now

You're invited to join us for a dedicated week of activities, events and workshops to raise awareness about environmental and social issues. Join the catering team for a taste and talk, learn how to make bee hotels or bee bombs, try nature journaling, or take part in the Climate Club 2.0 live action role playing game! You can also find out about funding to run your own sustainability projects on campus. Book your free place at Sustainability Week events.

3. Celebrating International Women’s Day

Celebrate International Women's Day on Friday (8 March) with events on campus including talks on women as human rights defenders, as composers, and overcoming obstacles to achievement. You can also explore the programme of York International Women’s Week which runs until Sunday (10 March).

4. Discover venues across campus with the MyUoY app

There is a brand new feature on the MyUoY app! You can now use Campus Explore to find places to eat and drink as well as opening times and menus. You can also locate key buildings across campus and plot your route out. If you haven’t already, download the MyUoY app now!

5. Get a taste of Masters study at York

Come and see what Masters study at York is all about at our Masters Taster Day on Wednesday 13 March. Ask questions about funding, learn what Masters study is really like and how it can benefit your future. You’ll also get the chance to speak directly to the department you’re interested in, so it’s a great opportunity to find out if postgraduate study is right for you.
