1. Looking ahead to Refreshers Week

Don’t miss Refreshers Week next week - a week of events and activities to kick off Semester 2, including refreshers on what you might have missed in Semester 1. There’s lots going on:

  • Polish up your academic skills with a Library (re)introduction, sessions to ease you into dissertation mode, and find out ways to work smarter, not harder
  • Plan for your summer by attending the Summer Opportunities Fair
  • Think about your future and discover the York Award
  • Meet new people and try out new things at events organised by your college and the Students’ Unions

See Refreshers Week 2024: What to expect for full details.

2. Make Time to Talk

Thursday 1 February is Time to Talk Day, a day when everyone is encouraged to talk about how they are. The more conversations we have, the more barriers we can break down. Not sure where to start? Download the Time To Talk bingo card to help start conversations. Can you complete four actions for your mental health?

3. Light Up The Night event

In solidarity with survivors of sexual violence, we’re hosting our annual Light Up The Night walk across campus next Monday (5 February), as part of Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week. Following a pre-mapped route around campus with battery powered candles, the event will end with hot drinks and an opportunity to learn more about the support provided by the University and local services. The event is free to attend but please book a place at Light Up The Night as spaces are limited.

4. Fancy getting creative?

YorCreate is a makerspace based in the Library, a place to work on creative projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge. Whether you want to create materials for your study or research, or just create something for fun, YorCreate is free and available for you to use. Get started and book a place on a forthcoming YorCreate induction session.

5. Suggest a Sabb

Do you know someone who would make a great student representative in the new, single Students' Union? Then recommend them! They don’t need any experience and don’t need to have been involved in Union activity before. YUSU will simply get in touch with them with more information about running in the Students’ Union elections. It’s a great way to show your support to your peers and encourage them to take on the challenge of running as a candidate! You can Suggest a Sabb until Wednesday 6 March.
