UoY community update

Semesters: do you know when you’re back next year?
Next academic year, we’re moving from terms to semesters. This means that returning students will arrive back on campus a little earlier than previously. Check semester dates 2023/24 for full details on when teaching restarts.

1. Marking Pride Month

Join us on Saturday (3 June) for the York Pride parade, marching from the Minster to the Knavesmire, where we welcome all members of our community to stand in solidarity with our LGBT+ community. We’ll also be raising the Progress Pride Flag on the flag mound behind Central Hall on Tuesday 6 June.  Find out more about our plans for Pride Month 2023.

2. Could you bring your insight and experience to our Student Expert Panel?

Our Student Expert Panel brings together diverse students to provide insight, advice and challenge to University initiatives. The aim is to increase partnership working and reduce inequalities. We are looking to recruit new members, especially students from underrepresented groups. Could you provide your insight and experience? Apply to be on our Student Expert Panel before Friday 23 June.

3. Study success tip #5: Keep active

As we reach the final stages of the Common Assessment Period, here’s a reminder that a top tip for study and exam success is regular exercise. Taking a break in fresh air can actually help your brain work better. York Festival of Ideas begins on Friday (2 June) but you can get involved early by downloading their walking podcasts: get out and about with the York Crime Walk or York Death & Culture Walk.

4. First years: last chance for York Strengths

First years: Week 8 is your last opportunity to attend a York Strengths Development Session. When you understand your strengths - the things you are good at and you love to do - you can make better decisions for your future. Find out more about yourself, identify careers that suit you and build confidence in talking about your strengths and demonstrating them to employers. Book a York Strengths Development session.

5. YORCUP 10,000

Ten thousand students and staff have now joined the YORCUP scheme! We've combined the convenience of a disposable cup with the environmental benefits of a reusable cup, and so far saved 1 million single-use plastic cups from landfill. Join the YORCUP scheme in outlets across campus.
