UoY community update

Industrial action update
Industrial action is taking place this week on Wednesday 15 to Friday 17 March. Please go to your teaching as normal, unless you have specifically been told otherwise.

Need individual exam arrangements for next term?
You need to submit evidence by Friday 24 March if you need examination adjustments in Summer Term. Email disability-evidence@york.ac.uk or find out about accessing disability support.

Looking for a housemate for next year?
Come to a housemate finder event at James College G/N/020 on Thursday 16 March at 5pm. Don’t forget that the Housing Hub drop-in sessions on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons are also there for your private sector accommodation questions.

1. Support over the spring vacation

Whether you’re leaving York or staying on campus, student support continues over the spring vacation. Opening times for outlets and services on campus might be different. You can still find support for your studies - try our online guides and workshops - plus, the usual sources of help and support for your wellbeing are available - including the new TalkCampus app. Find out more about support over the spring vacation.

2. Official opening of David Kato College

This week sees the official opening of David Kato College, named in honour of the human-rights defender and gay-rights activist. Join our special event on Tuesday (14 March) to hear some of the ways we can tackle challenges to human rights. Book your free ticket to the David Kato College opening event.

3. Funding for personal and professional development

Seen a development opportunity but need funding to realise it? The York Futures Scholarship provides funding of up to £6,000 for work experience, study abroad, placements, and extracurricular learning opportunities. Applications open on Monday 20 March and close on Monday 24 April. Find out more about the York Futures Scholarship.

4. Could you help a new student settle in?

Apply to be in the 2023/24 College STYC and STYM teams! Our Second/Third Year Contacts (STYCs) and Second/Third Year Mentors (STYMs) help new students get the best start to university life. In addition to enhancing your CV, being a STYC or STYM is a great way to get involved in college life, help others and meet new people. Apply to be a STYC or STYM.

5. Get involved with Roses 2023

Roses, our annual sports competition with Lancaster University, is hosted at York this year and YUSU are looking for Roses Volunteers and Charity Champions to get involved. You’re needed for tasks such delivering match scores and crowd management and there are leadership roles too. Charity Champions get involved with fundraising for the charity partner, Survive. Find out how you can get involved with Roses 2023.
