Welcome to your undergraduate student news summary of key things happening this week.

Do you know the telltale signs of a scam?
All students can be targeted by scammers. Please take a look at current scams we’re aware of to help protect yourself.

1. PAID OPPORTUNITY: Welcome international students this autumn

The International Student Support team are recruiting enthusiastic, sociable and highly self-motivated students (both UK and international) to become Welcome Team members assisting with Welcome Fortnight. Application deadline: Sunday 22 May. Find out more about the role.

The team behind our Student Buddying Scheme are also looking for UK and international students to support new students in the autumn. This voluntary role is to support students in our under-represented student communities and is a great opportunity to develop your skills while also having fun! Find out if you’re eligible to be a student buddy.

2. Join the Student Expert Panel

The Student Expert Panel meets twice a month and ensures that student experiences, needs and perspectives are represented in the work of the University. We’re currently recruiting new members and welcome applications from all current students, no matter how you are studying, whether you live on or off campus, your stage of study and regardless of previous experience. Application deadline: Wednesday 1 June. Find out more about the Student Expert Panel and apply.

3. Academic support: Writing Centre

The Writing Centre offers advice and guidance on academic writing, critical thinking and analysis skills to help you develop effective study habits and communication skills. See our online Academic Writing practical guide for tutorials and videos to help you develop all aspects of academic writing and book a one-to-one Writing Centre appointment for personalised guidance, no matter what level of study.

4. Thinking about further study?

If you’re thinking about the next step after your degree, take advantage of forthcoming opportunities to chat to UoY staff and current Masters and PhD students to find out more about postgraduate study at York. Join our student-led chat on Wednesday 18 May or come to our Postgraduate Online Open Day in June. Find out about further study at York.

5. Study success tip: keep active

Exercising is one of the quickest and most effective ways to de-stress. Regular exercise can actually help your brain work better. Fresh air will clear your head and perk you up, even a short walk will do. See all our top tips for study and exam success.
