Your Cost of Living Ambassador can help
Your college now has a student Cost of Living Ambassador to highlight useful money saving information and resources to students and to help you access specialist support if you need it. Check your college communications for details of when and where you can meet your COLA. And don’t forget our Cost of Living hub has all the details of University support you can access.

1. When the unexpected happens, understand your options

Sometimes things happen that can seriously impair your performance in an assessment or prevent you undertaking the assessment at the scheduled time. With exams and assessments taking place for many in January, it’s good to know that, if disruptive events are serious and unexpected, you may be able to defer an assessment or take it again. Find out about exceptional circumstances affecting assessment.

2. Improve your language skills in 2023

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science runs language courses from beginner through to degree level. Short 8-week courses start in January and range from Languages for Musicians (German/Italian beginner) to Spanish conversation (intermediate). New for this year: Ukrainian for everyday communication. Take advantage of the discount for students! Find out more and book your Languages For All short course.

3. Get involved in the organisation of One Planet Week 2023

One Planet Week runs every year in week 6 of Spring Term to celebrate and share sustainability knowledge and research at the University to staff, students and the wider public. A range of activities are planned around the ‘Land and Nature’ theme for 2023, focusing on creating, protecting and restoring land for the benefit of people and wildlife. Register your interest in volunteering at One Planet Week.

4. Marking Disability History Month

Disability History Month is an opportunity to celebrate the lives and achievements of disabled people. Running from Wednesday 16 November until Friday 16 December, the theme for 2022 is Disability, Health and Wellbeing. See the actions, events and Disability related research taking place at UoY.

5. Marking Trans Awareness Week

Trans Awareness Week is an opportunity to raise awareness and visibility of trans people and we are flying the trans flag on campus all week beside Central Hall. We are dedicated to working closely with members of our community in order to improve inclusion and to create a safe and welcoming environment. See our information and support for trans students.
