1. It’s One Planet Week

One Planet Week returns this week! Whether you’re interested in finding ways to save money on your energy bill, exploring how you can take action against climate change, or winning a £50 gift card through our online cooking demo, there’s plenty to get involved with. Discover the full list of events and book your tickets.

2. Help us to understand barriers to student success

While statistics tell us there are gaps in success for certain groups of students, it does not tell us why. Therefore, we’re carrying out an Award Gap Research Project to help us uncover and address potential barriers to our students' success. To help us do this, we would like to hear about undergraduate students’ experiences of learning, teaching and assessment at York. Closing date: Tuesday 1 March. Get involved with the Award Gap Research Project.

3. Applying for an internship or placement?

Are you applying (or going to apply) for placements, graduate schemes or internships? If you are applying to large organisations, you may be asked to complete a numerical reasoning test. Come to a hands-on workshop from the Maths Skills Centre that will explore practical methods for solving problems in the quickest way and will point you to further resources. Book your place on the numerical reasoning workshop.

4. Make your business idea a reality

The next round of Venture One is now open! York Venture One provides funding to help you to take a business idea from concept through to early stage investment. It is a pilot initiative offering between £5,000 to £10,000 as either advance subscription or seed funding. Application deadline: Sunday 20 March. Find out more about Venture One funding.

5. Flywire: A new way of paying the University

We have partnered with Flywire to accept payments from international students worldwide. Using Flywire you can easily and securely make tuition fee and accommodation payments in your own currency, using local payment methods. We will be rolling this functionality out in e:Vision for more students making payments over the course of the coming weeks. Find out more about Flywire.

Student news

A note on… ‘Tell us’ student survey

Thanks to all who completed the latest ‘Tell us’ student survey. While we analyse the results, we found out the previous week that nearly half of you are interested in volunteering opportunities and 14% are currently volunteering - so we know you’d like more opportunities to volunteer. Why not take a look at our student volunteering information to find out more?
