Coronavirus: update summary

Apply to the Emergency Student Support Fund
The Emergency Student Support Fund (ESSF) provides short-term financial support for the unanticipated needs of students caused or exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Apply for a maximum of £500 of non-repayable funding to cover things like living costs, health-related costs, accommodation, travel expenses, and study-related costs. The Fund opens on Wednesday 10 February and closes on Tuesday 16 February

1. Don’t be fooled by fake calls

We have been made aware of the latest scam aiming to trick students out of money. Learn how to spot scams and get help if you think you may have been targeted.

2. Join a virtual exchange with Japanese students

Escape lockdown by applying to join a virtual exchange project with students from Japan! Global Opportunities is hosting a small intercultural exchange project at the end of the month in which students from Tohoku University and York will get to know each other’s culture and then present their findings. Find out more and apply for the virtual exchange.

3. Pushing through perfectionism

Do you feel that your work is not good enough? Do you worry about your results and feedback from others? Do you feel that you’re not coping as well as you should with academic pressure? Read our advice on dealing with perfectionism and come to this online workshop to find out why perfectionist thinking and behaviour is holding you back and what you can do about it. 4. Celebrating LGBT+ month

We’re celebrating LGBT+ History Month 2021 with a collection of events and activities, open to all, which highlight the contributions and achievements of our LGBT+ community. Find out more about LGBT+ History Month 2021. See also news of our new inclusive crossing outside Spring Lane Building which features the colours of the Progress Pride Flag and the recent announcements that one of our new colleges will be named after famous LGBT+ diarist Anne Lister.

5. Campus life photography and art competition

Enter our campus life photography and art competition for a chance to to win an iPad! We want you to capture your experience of life on campus and all entrants can claim a free canvas print of their entry. Deadline for entries: Sunday 28 February. Find out more about the competition.
