Germaine is currently an associate lecturer at the department, with specialism in social psychology. Germaine was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1989. She came to the University of York in 2009 to study Sociology with Social Psychology and completed her BA (Hons) in 2012. Fascinated with analysing discourse and talk, she embarked on her PhD at York immediately after and is currently completing her thesis. Her PhD is fully funded by pharmaceutical company Bial.
She has taught on the Introducing Social Psychology module since 2012, as well as teaching and lecturing on the Cultivating a Sociological Imagination module. Germaine has worked for the Mount School in York teaching German for 2 years whilst studying, combining her interests in languages (she speaks 4), people and education.
Germaine has a strong interest in analysing social interactions, specifically verbal and written discourses through the lenses of discursive psychology and CA. In her current project she analyses the rhetoric of coincidences, exploring the ways in which consciousness is constructed in talk and texts.
Germaine is the course convenor for the first year Introducing Social Psychology module.
