Profile

Biography

Amalia Bhalli is a PhD researcher in Sociology at the University of York, supervised by Dr Patricia Hamilton and Dr Anna Strhan. Her work brings together sociological and psychological perspectives on motherhood. As founder of Amalia Bhalli Academy, she works as a Matrescence Educator and Mami Coach, supporting Romanian-speaking mothers through the identity transition of becoming a parent. In September 2026 she organised "Mami, ești bine?", a conference at the Village Hotel Watford focused on maternal wellbeing and identity among the Romanian diaspora. The event brought together nine speakers and a network of sponsors and partners, combining expert talks with a community space for mothers to connect.

Her doctoral research, Mothering Between Worlds, examines how migration shapes women's experience of matrescence and how community participation influences maternal identity reconstruction among Romanian mothers in the UK.
