After completing an undergraduate degree in Sociology, Fran took a year to work as an Education Support Worker at the University of York, offering mentoring and note-taking assistance to students with various disabilities. Following this, Fran moved back into academia by completing a Research Methods MA at the University of York, followed by her current PhD study in the areas of Sociology, Psychotherapy and Conversation Analysis (CA).

Supported by an ESRC 1+3 Award (as part of the White Rose DTC), Fran’s research addresses the verbal and nonverbal interaction occurring during psychotherapeutic interaction. The project draws together the fields of Sociology and Psychotherapy, by analyzing the social actions and institutional work being achieved by patient and therapist during therapeutic talk. The project is supervised by Professor Robin Wooffitt (The University of York) and Dr. Janet Shaw (The Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy).
