Profile

Biography

I joined the University of York in 2022 as a PGR student currently working towards my MRes in Sociology. Prior to that, I graduated from a BA (First Class Honours) in Sociology, Journalism & Media at Cardiff University in 2020.

I also studied a joint honours degree in Philosophy & Sociology at Université Lille 3 in France. Finally, I aim to pursue my Postgraduate Research path by completing a PhD in the near future.

In 2019-2020 I have worked as a consultant for a social research regarding BAME student in Cardiff University with the program Go Wales. As part of this placement, I have facilitated focus groups and wrote a research report.

Research

Overview

My research interests include the study of ethno-religious and national identities, their construction and negotiation within post-colonial societies. I am interested in unpacking mechanisms of how individuals from ethnic minorities self-identify in contrast to their own group vs. the others.

I am currently working towards my MRes dissertation thesis, supervised by Dr Haley McAvay. I am carrying out a qualitative research using semi-structured interviews aiming to discover processes and trends on how second and third-generation Algerians in France negotiate their ethnic, religious and national identity, and how it differs on an intergenerational level.
