As part of Refugee Week 2026, we are bringing together a series of events under the theme Courage, and we’re inviting contributions, ideas, and collaborators.

15-21 June, theme: 'Courage'

Planned Event

Courage, community and conversation

  • Monday 15 June 2026
  • Friargate Quaker Meeting House, York

This public engagement event will bring together refugee-support organisations, students, the public, and researchers to foster dialogue, connection, and shared understanding.

The day will include:

  • Daytime community drop-in showcase – an open space for organisations and groups to share their work, resources, and opportunities.
  • Panel discussion – a facilitated conversation exploring the theme of 'courage'.

Asylum without Sanctuary? Assessing the UK’s refugee policy reforms

We are also planning an online discussion and welcome input on themes, speakers, and format. Possible areas of focus include:

  1. New restrictions within the asylum system, including barriers to permanent status.
  2. Policies aimed at increasing returns.
  3. Emerging routes and stakeholder roles, such as community sponsorship schemes.
