Finding work in the UK

I need a Visa to get the permit to stay in the UK. I know it was going to be a big challenge for me. My study in York Uni is just a one year master course, so I started to prepare as soon I arrived the UK. In the first term, I applied for some volunteering work, which is easier to get than paid work. In the second term, I applied for some internships and part-time work, which is easier than the full time work or graduate scheme. In the last term, at the same time I preparing for my dissertation, and doing an internship, I applied for graduate scheme and full time work.

Another tip is to check the gov.uk to find some shortage occupations that is related to my degree or experience. These jobs are easier to get offers.

In addition, I practiced a lot about telephone interview, face to face interview and assessment centre. In the first few months in the UK, I am not quite fluent in my English. I grabbed all the chances to know the local people, Facebook, pubs, campus events, volunteer work, career fairs etc. I tell myself: you are here to experience the different culture, different environment, not stay at home or stay with your friends from your home country. You are an adult, you need do something on your own, not always follow others.

In the end, when you applying for jobs, don't be afraid that you are going to be refused. Looking for jobs is not like looking for gold, the more the better. You can only accept one offer in the end anyway. So the more rejection you get, the more experience you can have.
