PhD in Biomedical Sciences

How I looked for postgraduate options

Findaphd.com was a Godsend!

How I found out about the postgraduate place

Course provider website

The application process

I had to send a CV and cover letter stating my interest in the PhD project, my career goals, any relevant experience and why I would be good for the place. I then had a formal interview involving giving a 10 minute presentation on a research project I had already conducted. This was followed by a 20 minute interview.

Why I continued studying

My year in industry as part of my degree showed me my passion for scientific research, with this being built upon during my final year research project. Further study consisting of a PhD is an ideal stepping stone in developing a career as a scientific researcher.

What my course is like

It is a PhD in the Biomedical Sciences Department involving researching, planning and carrying out experiments on the project.

My advice to students considering further study

Apply early and to as many places as possible. But only apply to places in which you have a genuine interest. Don't get disheartened by rejections too, learn from them to make your next application even better.
