A day in the life of a Systems Analyst in the United Kingdom

How I found out about the job

Graduates Yorkshire

The recruitment process

I emailed a CV and cover letter then had one phone interview. This was followed by several face to face interviews on one day.

My advice to students considering work

Do some sort of activity so you have something to go on your CV. Don't make anything up.

What I do

My job involves testing software changes, release assurance and various projects.

Skills I use and how I developed them

York University is top 10 so that was a plus. The degree class was the minimum requirement and the subject was largely irrelevant. Someone with the same job as me studied dance at university. They were interested in personality and potential - not subject.

Degree skills:
Analytical and logical skills - formal logic has actually turned out to have a practical application...

What I like most

I like the salary and benefits and the challenging environment. There are also good prospects and it's local.
