A day in the life of a Trainee Solicitor in the United Kingdom

How I found out about the job

Recruitment event

The recruitment process

Application form; assessment day; two-week vacation scheme; second assessment day; interview.

My career history

Before studying at York I spent four years in the music industry playing keyboard for a signed band.

Courses taken since graduation

Legal Practice Course (LPC)

My advice to students considering work

Get whatever work experience you can. Take advantage of part-time jobs and/or internships - I made use of the Student Internship Bureau (SIB) and my department's careers service.

Make yourself commercially aware by reading the news, especially the business sections, well in advance of any assessment day or interview. Also, think outside the box when it comes to detailing experiences you've had which might benefit your application.
